The Pentax XO eyepieces were laid out to offer an outstanding contrast and on-axis image sharpness at high magnifications. The light transmission is approx. 98%.

At an apparent field of view of 44° a standard 4 lens design would have sufficed. But Pentax did not only design excellent eyepieces for visual use, but also for photographical use through eyepiece projection.

Unlike most normal Orthoscopic eyepieces the excellent image sharpness of the Pentax XO stretches out to the edges of the field of view - both for visual and photographical use. To achieve this Pentax has designed these eyepieces with 5 or 6 lenses, respectively.

Therefore the field of use of these eyepieces is both high power observing and photography. The eyepieces guarantee that the optical quality of the telescope is not wasted at all.
