Skywatcher Equinox 80 Pro Optical Tube Assembly
Zoom  Zoom

The Equinox 80 is another excellent choice for birding, nature study, and photography. Its fast, high-contrast optics and generous field of view make it an ideal instrument for studying larger clusters and star fields, and it is a proven performer for astrophotography – you can even use it with a common SCT focal reducer to achieve speeds down to f/4.5! But don’t be afraid to push up the magnification, too. Its crisp optics make it a strong performer on tight double stars, and it provides crisp, clear lunar and planetary images with no image breakdown, even at high powers.

Schott Glass Used in Selected Models for Crown Element
Equinox 80 benefit from the inclusion of Schott glass being used for the positive front Crown element in the objective. Schott is the recognized world leader in glass utilized for precision optical lens systems, including medical instrumentation, and famous-brand camera lenses. While Schott glass is only used in selected models, all other models utilize top-quality, Grade-A glass from perhaps less famous but, nonetheless, highly respected, high-quality glass manufacturers

Metallic High-Transmission Lens Coatings
Each air-to-glass lens surface has exotic anti-reflection metallic coatings applied to ensure optimum light through-put of approaching 99.5%. The proprietary Sky-Watcher “Metallic High-Transmission Coatings” (MHC) are the finest photon anti-rejection coatings in their class.

Standard Features:
D = 80 mm, fast, flat f/6.2, F = 500.
Razor sharp, colour-free, high contrast optics.
Retractable aluminum dewshields.
Removeable L-shape bracket for easy mounting on any any camera tripod.
Perfect for astronomy, birding and terrestrial use.

EQUINOX-80 ED PRO

“We took five, two-minute exposures of the Pleiades & Andromeda galaxy which were then stacked and image-enhanced using K3CCD tools. They gave a tremendous amount of detail – in fact they were the best images of these objects I have ever taken…”The view was pin-sharp across 85 percent with the 20mm lens and there was no apparent colour fringing at all around the stars”…Overall the refractor performed well on all tasks. It would make a top quality addition to any astronomers scope collection!

Fantastic widefield APO.
Thursday, 26 March 2015  |

This was purchased to accompany a HEQ5 Pro mount for astrophotography. As soon as I opened the box and felt the weight of this telescope, I was impressed with the build quality and overall presentation. My first astrophotography target through this was M45 The Pleiades, I was blown away by the view that much that I spent a good portion of the night visually observing it rather than imaging it. The stars were pin sharp, very natural colour and contrast, absolutely no abberations visible almost to the edge of the field.
The focuser is extremely smooth, the index markings make it a dream to quickly get near focus with eyepieces or cameras without having to look through or take test exposures. Compression rings hold any adaptors tight and centralise any optics perfectly. The bottom of the telescope can be unlocked and rotated 360deg to allow easy framing of targets with camera without having to disturb the imaging train (focuser, camera, adaptors etc).
This is my main 'go to' telescope for imaging. When used with the Skywatcher FIeld Flattener, stars are pin sharp with no noticeable vignetting right to the edge of the frame.
An impressive short-tube, widefield apochromatic refractor, fantastic for widefield astrophotography and gives stunning visual views of star clusters, Jupiter and the Moon with no colour fringing.
