We offer everything from our heavy duty tri-knob reduction unit with shaft lock system to different types of motor options for both visual or imaging configurations. Our "High Res" stepper motor options use PC based interfaces, providing automated focus ability running todays ASCOM software. The new C-axis bearing collimation system provide flexibility for achieving perfect mechanical centerline collimation should the need arise. Custom anodized colors and 68mm thread top options make for a perfect custom focuser to match your EDGE scope.
The new CHL 2.5” large format focuser features a low profile hybrid design to allow focal reducers to be used inside the focuser. We make 3 versions: one for EDGE 8” using the .7” EDGE reducer; one for EDGE 9.25” using the Lepus Telecompressor #19410; and for the EDGE 11” / 14” using the large EDGE .7 reducer or the Lepus Telecompressor. The focuser will also work with out the reducer installed.
CHL focusers for EDGE 8" and 9.25" scopes include a special short profile replacement knob kit. The machined aluminum knobs replace the stock plastic mirror lock and focus knobs. The knob design along with a tapered bottom focuser flange shape allows the CHL 2.5” large format focusers to thread on to the visual back in a very low position. This super low profile along with the reducers fitting up in the large format focuser’s drawtube provide much needed back focus for imaging set ups. We also include a special 68mm to Recessed T-thread adapter along with the normal 2” and 1 ¼” comp ring thread in tops. All 3 thread in tops come standard with any of these CHL model focusers.

Note 68mm recessed T-thread adapter installed in drawtube. This adapter is included free with all CHL focusers. It allows the focuser and camera to rack down even with the top of the focusers body. Both a 2" comp ring and 1 1/4" thread in tops are also included as well.

Distance from reducer edge to top of the recessed T-thread adapter is 35mm. That leaves 70mm of space for imaging sensors. (Based on .7 reducers 105mm required distance specs ).
All focusers are pre collimated on a spin fixture on a bench before we ship them. We project a laser in the focusers drawtube at a target located 8 feet away and adjust the drawtube tip/ tilt so the laser dot spins on its self when the focuser is rotated. Edge customers can now collimate the focuser to adjust for any error in the visual back/ center line of the imaging plane. The ability to adjust the focuser’s collimation can be very useful when setting up an EDGE scope for imaging.
Lifting Capacity: The drawtube pressure can be adjusted to each user’s preference. Increasing the pressure increases the load capacity (vertical lifting capacity) of the focuser. Decreasing the pressure lowers the load capacity but gives the focuser a smoother focusing action. We set the focuser at approximately 6 lbs. at time of assembly; however, you can adjust it to be less or more depending on your specific needs. The ideal setting is to have it adjusted so the focuser can hold the heaviest load presented without slipping and requiring no additional force. This will give the focuser the best feel and still provide the vertical lifting capacity required. To adjust - turn the aluminum thumbscrew located between the two setscrews on the bottom of the focuser CW to increase load capacity. The aluminum thumbscrew can only add pressure, not take away pressure. This is due to the 2 setscrews on each side of the thumbscrew applying a minimum set pressure amount. In some rare cases, it may be necessary to do a coarse adjustment by turning the 2 setscrews located on each side of the aluminum thumbscrew (1/8 allen wrench) a very small amount. Normally, 1/20 of a turn or less should be made on the setscrews in a CW direction, then check the lifting capacity pressure by racking the drawtube up and down.
Collimation: To adjust collimation, turn one of the 4 mini setscrews located between the bearing sets on the body of the focuser. This will tilt the drawtube in one of 4 directions. See advanced laser collimation document for more information about collimating an SCT. The focuser is already collimated before we ship it, so any adjustment made will take it off the factory settings.
Moonlite High Resolution Stepper Motor Kit With Mini Controller V2
All MoonLite's High Resolution stepper motor options use a premium, low backlash Hurst stepper motor. This provides very fine .00008" resolution and accurate position repeatability required for today's high end imaging systems. It comes as an option on all single and dual rate model focusers (SCT, Refractor, and Newtonian). It has such a fine variable rate that the reduction unit is not needed, so it is not offered on dual rate focusers. The Power slip clutch system allows both motor and manual focus control of the focuser at any time.
The miniV2 is an ASCOM compliant stepper motor controller for Moonlite's High Res Stepper Motors. The controller works with all ASCOM based software packages out there today such as Focus Max, CCDSoft, MaximDL, etc. Besides ASCOM drivers for both 32 bit and 64 bit systems, we also provide an Non ASCOM software program for customers that are not running ASCOM based programs and need only a basic program to operate the focuser on a PC. Works great for a simple remote focus solution. The miniV2 controller has built in temperature sensor as well as a remote temp probe. The controller runs on 12 Volts DC and we include an AC adapter that has all the different plug configurations (US, Europe, UK, and Australia); however, most customers will simply use 12-volt power off their mount. This new miniV2 controller is designed to be used by a PC or its manual buttons and speed control knob for manual operation at the scope. All cables are included with the controller.
